More About The Green Mountain Piper.

Who am I?
My name is Dan Kingsley, and I’m known as the Green Mountain Piper. I’ve been playing the bagpipes for over 30 years. Believe it or not, that’s not a long time to play this fairly difficult instrument. I’m still learning every day, and that’s one thing I love about this instrument. I’m a lifelong musician, and I also play a wide range of other instruments, including guitar, dobro, banjo, bass, and drums. I’m currently learning the accordion, but please don’t ask me to play anything yet!
Where do I live?
I live in Lakewood, Colorado, with my lovely wife Tammie and 2 golden retrievers named Fendi and Mochi. When I’m not playing my pipes around town, you can catch me riding my road bike around Lakewood and Golden.
Bagpipe experience.
I play the bagpipes with the Michael Collins Pipes and Drums in Denver. We’re an Irish Pipe band, and you can catch us at pubs and venues around Denver. Watch for us on St. Patrick’s Day as we step off as one of the first pipe bands in the parade! You can also catch me on local TV and News just before the parade as I’m the (un)official piper for the Denver St. Patrick’s Day Parade committee!
Places to catch me playing!
I have a lot of recurring gigs. I start every year off with the Evergreen Lake Plunge on New Years Day. I don’t actually go swimming but I play the bagpipes while those crazy folks jump into the freezing water! Next, the fun starts in March with St. Patrick’s Day festivities. I do a lot of media for the St. Patrick’s Parade Committee. You can catch me on all the local news channels and radio the week leading up to the parade. Then it’s time to march! I play the entire weekend of St. Patrick’s Day with my band, the Michael Collins Pipes and Drums, starting with the parade, then it’s off to all the fun pubs in Denver and the surrounding area for a weekend of piping fun! Another event that I’ve been doing for several years is the Dawson School Graduation in Lafayette. I play as the graduates walk out after receiving their diplomas. Always an inspiring event. Then later in the summer I’m a fixture at the Center for the Arts, Evergreen Summerfest. I help open the event and entertain the vendors and shoppers. Always a great time!

How it works
Need a bagpiper?
Contact me and I’ll help you fit bagpiping into your special event. I’m happy to help you choose the right tunes and the right time to play them. Advice on when the pipes are a great choice and also where they might not fit so well.
When to feature the bagpipes
It’s very common to have the piper play before your event to welcome your guests and let them know they’ve arrived somewhere special.
Also common to have a piper close out your event. Pipe out the bride and groom to a rousing version of Scotland the Brave! Or playing Amazing Grace as friends and family remember their loved one at a special service.
Churches are great places to feature the pipes because the acoustics are generally very good.

Sad tunes and happy tunes
I know a wide range of tunes, both Irish and Scottish. Fast tunes, slow tunes, jigs, reels, marches, and more. If I don’t know it, give me a little bit and I’ll learn a tune for you within my capabilities.
